BRANDI BRIDGERS WAS a bitch in high school, and as I watched her sitting behind her desk with her ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude and her stylishly bobbed blonde hair, she gave me little hope she had changed. I rolled my eyes as she adjusted her neck-high white blouse. Her lips pressed together in a thin line as she scanned over my credentials. My resume dangled in her hand like it was something she found at the bottom of her drain. “…come home.” My eyes widened, snapping up to look at Brandi. “What did you say?” Brandi’s lips tilted in a frown at my question. “I said, I’m not surprised you came home after all this time. Almost everyone comes home eventually. Really, Katherine, this is an interview, you really should be paying more attention.”
