Product update - November 2018

Hi everybody! It's that time of the month when we do our routine catch up about all the new things that we have been adding to Inkspired during the month. Let's get started!

New front cover's templates, new colors, and new formats

Undoubtedly, the biggest and most impactful change on Inkspired during November. We have finally improved the overall experience of uploading cover pictures, we have added new beautiful designs with amazing colored templates and filters, and that's not all. We have also incorporated 2 new formats plus the classic vertical book cover.  You can now upload a horizontal promo banner which will help your story get promoted in several other places around the platform. And that's not all, the new story background banner lets you personalize your story profile. The latter will also be incorporated in your User Profile soon!

PayPal payments

We have been listening to you. We know everyone has a favorite payment method, and we have just incorporated one of the most popular to make things easier for you when checking out. From today, it's possible to pay for your Self-Publishing services and your Writer Premium Subscriptions not only with a credit card, but also using your own PayPal account. If you have been waiting for it to upgrade, try it now :)

We care about the user experience of our community as much as making our platform more secure, every day. Adding another secure way to pay online is a step forward to that.

Set up a password for accounts linked to Twitter and Facebook

On the same line, we are aware that some of you signed up on Inkspired using your social networks, but at some point, you want to change that. Now it's possible to "unlink" any social account that was used while registering (be it Facebook or Twitter) and set up a new access password to your account.

If you want to do it, it's very simple. Just go to Settings > Edit Profile. If you have used Facebook or Twitter as a registration method, at the start of your profile you will see a link that will allow you to start the process to unlink and set up your password.

Better news updates on-site!

Many of you have noticed a green or red bar on top of the website from time to time. That's our new "news" flash. It's a very simple way to keep you all posted on emerging top releases on-site. By the way, if you want to dismiss it, you just need to click on the bar and it will be gone for good :)

Announcements on your User Profile

Every time you share an announcement or update now it will be posted on a highlighted location in your public user profile. And that's not all, now it's possible to make comments on each announcement :) Wanted to engage with your audience? This is an ideal form of keep all your stories' followers updated with your new releases, and start conversations about it.

Multilingual e-mails

We got started with the last phase of our platform translation with the aim to make you feel at home, covering  the only thing that was left to translate: our e-mail notifications. Soon you can expect clear e-mails in your preferred language (English, Spanish and Portuguese to get started), and also more useful notifications about your own writing progress, your stories' interactions, and reading recommendations.

Support form is back on the Dashboard

Not much to elaborate on this, but we have added the support form back to the left menu bar on your Dashboard. In case you need immediate assistance, you know where to go now :)

Oh, and one more thing! An update on our mobile apps

A very long expected update on our mobile apps is just around the corner. Yes, finally we are making a major release fixing all the multiple issues with the current version, and keep it more in line to our website's look & feel and capabilities. You will not have to wait long. The iOS new release will make it to the App Store around the Christmas holidays, and the Android new release will be available on the Google Play Store in January 2019.

Product update - October 2018

Welcome to the new Monthly Product Update. Since Inkspired is evolving at a fast pace and we have been fixing and adding a few things to improve the overall user experience for all writers and readers in our platform, we believe having an end-of-the-month catch-up with you would be nice. So, let's get started. What's new on Inkspired?

New editor

We have updated our web editor. At a first glance it looks exactly the same, but technology-wise it's more powerful and finally fixes all of the weird issues with styling that our previous editor has. It's a massive upgrade that we have been working for a while. Adding images is more intuitive now, and we have also included the option of create lists. Additionally, the new editor it is now fully compatible with the @mentions, styles, and formats of our Inkspired Writer app.  And it works perfectly while syncing your content between the website and the apps.

We keep adding value to our Writer Premium subscription. Now, all Premium members can benefit from:

Update on BETA readers

BETA readers are in full swing. We got a few technical problems at the beginning, but all of them have been solved and are thing of the past. Do not forget that if you use the Self-publishing services to UNLOCK the BETA readers, there are still some further instructions (detailed in the Order page) that you may need to follow before making the official BETA readers request on your chapter.

Mobile apps

We have received hundreds of messages about when we are going to update our current mobile apps. Let's be honest, the mobile apps are quite behind in what our website actually offers. Since we are committed to making our apps great (again), we can confirm a new version is on its way for iOS and Android. It might take until right before the end of the year though, but we promise we will put it in your hands soon and the wait will be worth it. Among the updated features includes Communities, Writing Contests, easier ways to browse stories, discover new stories, review your pocket library, and so much more. And we also have an additional surprise for the launch ;)

Hello promo Ads

As we explore new ways to keep Inkspired working smoothly, we have launched Ads across the website. It's also a very interesting way of reminding you of promotions, publishing opportunities, and new services we have launched.

Slowly (but firmly) we are implementing new currencies across the platform, to make it easier for you to see the prices in your local currency. On the Self-publishing services page and at the Writer Premium page, you can check the price conversion in the most popular currencies around the world, at the current exchange rate.

Payments are still processed in USD. In the near future, we will let you set-up your own currency preferences.

Career openings

We are hiring! We have a few positions available in Madrid (Spain), Quito (Ecuador), and Brazil. Check our career opportunities.

What's next?

You can expect a lot of more surprises until the end of the year, and especially throughout November, including Paypal payments integrations, improvements when uploading your story cover pictures, and much more. Do not worry, in case you think you will miss something, we will let you know on our next monthly catch-up at the end of the month ;)

Happy writing and reading,

New Inkspired updates

On Inkspired we are working hard every day to bring you the best user experience in reading and writing fiction stories online. We design and build tools, services, and even challenges especially tailored for you to keep you ahead of your writing game, or be able to recommend you the stories that you may love read.

Coming July, we look back to the start of the year, and we have realized the huge milestones that we have achieved together during these last 6 months. We have launched new programs, new features, we created new writing contests, brought you new languages, improved our recommendations systems, fixed hundreds of technical bugs, and increased our magnificent community of writers and readers. And, what is even better is that we are never gonna stop!

Here is a brief recap of the things we have soft-launched in the past few weeks:

New reading experience

As you may have noticed, a few weeks ago we changed the way you read stories.

Now all the chapters are separated by pages. As an avid reader, this helps you to browse easily across chapters, comment on them faster, and also help your favorite authors with great reviews every time you finish reading one. It just made sense for everyone, and the reaction has been great :)

Writing Contests

As you may have noticed, we have been running Writing Contests in English, Spanish and Portuguese for a while. To fully enter Inkspired official contests, apart of submitting your stories and properly tag them, from now on you will need to click on "Participate now" in the contest you would like to enter, on our Writing Contests page. We are also opening them so you, as an Inkspired member, can create your own Inkspired writing contests, competitions or challenges. Want to create one? E-mail your proposal to us at

Notification systems

The notifications have been improved and will still get new improvements soon. We have separated the types of notifications you get on our website into 3 categories: Account, My Stories, and Communities, so now you don't have to browse across dozens of notifications to find the ones that you really care about. You will soon have this same functionality on the iOS and Android apps, whenever our next mobile updates are available.

Writer's Guide

We have a new free writer's guide available for you in English and Spanish, right in our Online Academy section. Get some pro-tips about how to focus on writing and choosing the right story type directly from the fabulous Jackie, our Content Manager. Some extra help when you reach your author's block could actually be handy hey! ;)

Happy Reader Set

We have created a fun reader's guide, and designed an Inkspired reading calendar plus a door hanger for everyone who invites 3 friends to join our platform! :) Yes, that's right, and it's totally free of course. Just invite your friends using your referral link available in your dashboard, and when 3 friends sign up using that link, you will get an e-mail with a downloadable file.

Rewards Program

Our brand new Rewards Program is part of an ambitious plan we have. It's now working, and it is totally transparent to your daily Inkspired usage. From now, everything you do will get you credit points. Being a writer or just a reader of Inkspired is now paying off, and will do so literally in the near future ;)

Want to read more about it? Check out our Rewards Program page for all the details.

And, we are hiring! Yes, we are. Check out our careers board here and reach us if you believe you can make an impact in our quest to make reading and writing online fiction better.

BETA readers

Inkspired's Writer Premium subscription has a new benefit, and it's amazing! From today, you will be able to request BETA readers for your chapters and get direct feedback from readers in our community. That's right. You will be able to be read by selected volunteers from our community (real avid readers) that can provide you a series of feedback based on the kind of insight you would like to have. At the moment, it's available for our Premium Subscribers in annual plans only.

How does it work?

  • Choose the chapter you would like to be read up to 5,000 words.
  • Click on the new "Request BETA readers" icon in the right side of the editor screen.
  • Write down some notes about the specific things you would like the readers to give you feedback on; for example, "the description of a setting", " character's decision", "the narrative", etc...
  • Submit your request, and that's it.
  • On our side, we will match your chapter with readers in our community who are interested in the category you are writing. We will update you when we have the first batch of comments.
  • You will get these comments from up to 5 readers in between 2 to 15 days, containing answers to what you requested and giving you recommendations on how to improve your story.

You can request BETA readers twice a month, and trust us: feedback in general, and be read by real persons, is invaluable when writing a new story. It could take it to new heights.

For now BETA readers are limited to stories in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. We plan to expand our language availability to German, French, and Russian in the upcoming months.

Become a Premium Subscriber today and do not miss out this opportunity!

Happy writing!
